1886Canadian Pacific Railway first transcontinental trainFirst scheduled passenger train crosses CanadaThe Canadian Pacific Railway's first scheduled transcontinental passenger train departed Montreal and arrived at Port Moody, British Columbia, completing Canada's first coast-to-coast rail link. The line fulfilled a promise made to British Columbia when it joined Confederation and bound the young country together economically. It spurred settlement and trade across the Canadian West.
