• 1886 Vancouver incorporated City of Vancouver formally established in British Columbia The City of Vancouver was incorporated in British Columbia, shortly before the Canadian Pacific Railway extended its line to the site. A massive fire swept through the new city that June, destroying most of its buildings within an hour. Vancouver was quickly rebuilt and grew into Canada's main Pacific port.
