1885Daimler builds the ReitwagenFirst internal combustion motorcycle is tested near StuttgartGottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach built the Petroleum Reitwagen, a wooden-framed vehicle powered by a single-cylinder gasoline engine, completing it in the autumn of 1885. Daimler's son rode it on a test run near Cannstatt in November, making it the first vehicle recognized as a motorcycle.
