1881Natural History Museum opens in LondonNew home for Britain's natural history collectionsThe Natural History Museum opened to the public in South Kensington, housing collections previously held by the British Museum. Its grand terracotta building was designed by Alfred Waterhouse. It became one of the world's foremost institutions for natural science research and public education.
