1877Siege of PlevnaOttoman forces hold out for months during the Russo-Turkish WarOttoman troops under Osman Pasha withstood repeated Russian and Romanian assaults at Plevna in present-day Bulgaria for nearly five months. The eventual Ottoman surrender on 10 December 1877 was a turning point that opened the road to Constantinople. The siege was one of the longest and costliest engagements of the Russo-Turkish War.
