• 1871 Royal Albert Hall opens London concert hall inaugurated by Queen Victoria Queen Victoria formally opened the Royal Albert Hall in London, built as a memorial to her late husband Prince Albert. The hall was intended as a venue for the arts and sciences and has since hosted concerts, including the annual Proms, and other major events. It remains one of Britain's best-known performance venues.
