1868Typewriter patentedSholes and Glidden typewriter receives US patentChristopher Latham Sholes received a US patent for a practical typewriter, developed with Carlos Glidden and Samuel Soule. The machine introduced the QWERTY keyboard layout still used today. It was later manufactured commercially by E. Remington and Sons.
