1855The Daily Telegraph foundedLondon's first penny newspaper launchesThe Daily Telegraph and Courier began publishing in London, soon becoming the first British newspaper to sell for just a penny after lowering its price within months of launch. Under later owner Joseph Moses Levy it grew into one of the world's largest-circulation newspapers. It remains one of Britain's major national dailies.
