1848The Communist Manifesto PublishedLandmark pamphlet with EngelsPublished in London in February 1848, "The Communist Manifesto" opened with the declaration that "a spectre is haunting Europe—the spectre of communism" and famously closed with the call "Workers of the world, unite!" The pamphlet outlined the theory of class struggle, critiqued capitalism's contradictions, and called for the proletariat to overthrow bourgeois society. It became one of the most influential political documents in world history, translated into virtually every major language.
