1800 – 1846Emperor Ninkō (1800-1846)Died 21 February 1846, aged 45Ninkō was the 120th Emperor of Japan and reigned from 1817. He founded the Gakushūin court school in Kyoto. His son Kōmei succeeded him.
1846Mormon exodus from Nauvoo beginsLatter-day Saints start their trek westFacing mob violence in Illinois, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began crossing the frozen Mississippi from Nauvoo. Led by Brigham Young, the migration eventually brought them to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847.
1846Battle of SobraonDecisive British victory ends the First Anglo-Sikh WarBritish and East India Company forces under Sir Hugh Gough stormed the Sikh entrenchments at Sobraon on the Sutlej. Thousands of Sikh soldiers died in the battle and the retreat across the river, and the road to Lahore lay open.
1846Kraków UprisingPolish nationalist revolt in the Free City of KrakówPolish nationalists rose in Kraków in an attempt to start a wider insurrection for independence. Austrian troops crushed the revolt within days, and in neighbouring Galicia peasants turned on the Polish nobility in the massacres known as the Galician slaughter.
