1790 – 1842Letitia Tyler (1790-1842)Died 10 September 1842, aged 51Letitia Christian Tyler was the first wife of President John Tyler. She was the first First Lady to die while her husband was in office. She had been disabled by a stroke and made only one public appearance at the White House.
1792 – 1842Francisco Morazán (1792-1842)Died 15 September 1842, aged 49Honduran general Francisco Morazán was president of the Federal Republic of Central America and fought to keep the union together. He was overthrown and shot by firing squad in San José, Costa Rica. He is revered as a hero of Central American unity.
1842Plug Plot RiotsA wave of strikes sweeps industrial BritainWorkers in the mills and mines of Lancashire, Yorkshire, the Midlands and Scotland went on strike against wage cuts. Strikers pulled the plugs from factory boilers to stop production. It is often described as the first general strike, and it was suppressed with troops and mass arrests.
