1840Napoleon's remains returned to ParisThe Retour des Cendres ceremonyNapoleon Bonaparte's remains, exhumed from Saint Helena in October 1840, arrived in Paris on 15 December 1840 and were interred at the Hotel des Invalides. The ceremony, ordered by King Louis-Philippe, drew huge crowds and marked a revival of Napoleonic memory in France. It became known as the Retour des Cendres.
