1839British forces capture AdenEast India Company seizes a port on the Arabian coastA British East India Company naval force captured the port of Aden from local rulers, establishing a coaling and garrison station on the route to India. Aden remained under British control for more than a century afterward. The seizure followed the plunder of a shipwrecked British vessel near the port.
