1775 – 1834Francois-Adrien Boieldieu (1775-1834)Died 8 October 1834, aged 58Boieldieu was a French composer best known for his comic opera 'La dame blanche', one of the most frequently performed French operas of the nineteenth century. He served as a professor of composition at the Paris Conservatoire and composed for the Opera-Comique for decades. He died near Paris.
1834Houses of Parliament Destroyed by FireA blaze gutted the old Palace of WestminsterA fire broke out at the Palace of Westminster in London after the burning of obsolete wooden tally sticks in its furnaces got out of control. The blaze destroyed most of the medieval building, sparing only Westminster Hall and a few other structures. The disaster led to a design competition and construction of the current Houses of Parliament.
