1833Britain reasserts control of the Falkland IslandsRoyal Navy expels Argentine officials from the islandsOn 3 January 1833, a British naval force under Captain John Onslow reestablished British authority over the Falkland Islands, removing the small Argentine garrison and officials stationed there. Britain had claimed the islands since the 1760s but had withdrawn its settlement decades earlier. The move began continuous British administration that continues to the present day.
