1771 – 1833Richard Trevithick (1771-1833)Died 22 April 1833, aged 62Richard Trevithick was a British engineer and inventor who built the first full-scale working railway steam locomotive. His pioneering work with high-pressure steam engines laid groundwork later developed by other engineers into the railway age. He died in relative poverty despite his technical achievements.
