1769 – 1832Georges Cuvier (1769-1832)Died 13 May 1832, aged 62Cuvier was a French naturalist widely regarded as the founder of comparative anatomy and vertebrate paleontology. He established extinction as a scientific fact and pioneered the use of fossils to reconstruct ancient life. He died in Paris after a sudden illness during the cholera epidemic.
