1796 – 1832Sadi Carnot (1796-1832)Died 24 August 1832, aged 36Carnot was a French physicist and military engineer whose 1824 analysis of heat engines founded the science of thermodynamics. His concept of an idealized heat cycle later underpinned the second law of thermodynamics. He died in Paris during the cholera epidemic that swept the city that year.
1832Black Hawk WarSauk leader Black Hawk resists removal from IllinoisBlack Hawk led a band of Sauk, Meskwaki, and Kickapoo people back across the Mississippi River into Illinois in defiance of an earlier removal treaty. The ensuing conflict with United States militia and army forces ended at the Battle of Bad Axe, where most of Black Hawk's followers were killed or captured. The war accelerated the removal of Native American tribes from the Old Northwest.
