• 1831 The Liberator begins publication William Lloyd Garrison launches a radical abolitionist newspaper Journalist William Lloyd Garrison issued the first number of The Liberator in Boston, demanding the immediate and complete abolition of slavery in the United States. The weekly paper became one of the most influential voices of the American anti-slavery movement over the following decades.
