1767 – 1830Benjamin Constant (1767-1830)Died 8 December 1830, aged 63Constant was a Swiss-French political thinker and novelist whose writings on liberty and constitutional government influenced European liberalism. His novel Adolphe and his political essays argued for individual rights against both monarchical absolutism and revolutionary excess. He served briefly in the French Chamber of Deputies after the July Revolution.
1783 – 1830Simón Bolívar (1783-1830)Died 17 December 1830, aged 47Bolívar led independence movements across northern South America, liberating Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia from Spanish rule. He served as president of Gran Colombia before resigning amid the union's collapse in 1830. He died of tuberculosis in Santa Marta, Colombia, shortly after leaving office.
