• 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language published Noah Webster completes his two-volume dictionary Noah Webster published his dictionary after more than two decades of work, documenting American spellings and usages distinct from British English. It included roughly 70,000 entries and helped standardize American English. The work became the foundation of the Merriam-Webster dictionary tradition.
