• 1827 Russian forces capture Yerevan Fortress falls during the Russo-Persian War A Russian army under General Ivan Paskevich took the fortress of Yerevan from Persian defenders after a siege. The capture secured Russian control of the region and set the stage for the Treaty of Turkmenchay the following year.
• 1827 Battle of Navarino Allied fleet destroys the Ottoman-Egyptian navy In Navarino Bay off the Peloponnese, a combined British, French and Russian fleet destroyed the Ottoman-Egyptian fleet without a formal declaration of war. The battle broke Ottoman naval power in the region and proved decisive in securing Greek independence.
