1825Iguanodon Named by Gideon MantellA second dinosaur genus is identified from fossil teeth found in SussexEnglish geologist Gideon Mantell presented giant fossil teeth found in Tilgate Forest, Sussex, to the Royal Society on 10 February 1825 and named the extinct herbivore Iguanodon. It was only the second dinosaur genus ever recognized, following William Buckland's Megalosaurus the year before.
