1825Decembrist RevoltRussian army officers stage a failed uprising in Saint PetersburgOn 26 December 1825, a group of army officers led roughly 3,000 soldiers into Senate Square in Saint Petersburg to oppose the accession of Tsar Nicholas I, hoping to force constitutional reform or a republic. Loyalist troops crushed the revolt within a day; five ringleaders were later executed and many others exiled to Siberia.
