1824Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824 signedBritain and the Netherlands divide colonial spheres in Southeast AsiaSigned in London on 17 March 1824, the treaty resolved colonial disputes by having the Dutch cede Malacca and withdraw claims north of the Strait of Malacca, while Britain ceded Bencoolen in Sumatra and recognized Dutch dominance there. The treaty laid the territorial basis for the later division between British Malaya and the Dutch East Indies.
