1743 – 1823Edmund Cartwright (1743-1823)Died 30 October 1823, aged 80Edmund Cartwright was an English inventor best known for patenting the power loom in 1785, a key advance of the Industrial Revolution that mechanized weaving. He also worked on wool-combing machines and agricultural improvements. He received a parliamentary grant late in life in recognition of his contributions to industry.
