1742 – 1823Pope Pius VII (1742-1823)Died 20 August 1823, aged 81Born Barnaba Chiaramonti, Pius VII reigned as pope through the Napoleonic era, including his own imprisonment by Napoleon and the signing of the 1801 Concordat with France. He presided over the restoration of the Papal States after Napoleon's fall. He died in Rome after a long pontificate marked by upheaval.
1753 – 1823Lazare Carnot (1753-1823)Died 2 August 1823, aged 70Lazare Carnot was a French mathematician, military engineer, and revolutionary statesman known as the "Organizer of Victory" for reorganizing French armies during the Revolutionary Wars. He later served briefly as Napoleon's Minister of War and defended Antwerp in 1814. He died in exile in Magdeburg after the Bourbon Restoration banished him.
