1822Haiti unifies the island of HispaniolaJean-Pierre Boyer's forces occupy Santo DomingoPresident Jean-Pierre Boyer led Haitian troops into Santo Domingo, ending its short-lived independence and bringing the entire island of Hispaniola under Haitian rule. The occupation abolished slavery in the eastern part of the island. Haitian control lasted until 1844.
