1820Venus de Milo unearthed on MilosAncient Greek marble statue discovered by a farmerA Greek farmer found the armless marble statue of Aphrodite buried in ruins on the island of Milos. French naval officers acquired it and presented it to King Louis XVIII, who donated it to the Louvre, where it became one of the most famous works of ancient sculpture.
