1734 – 1816Maria I of Portugal (1734-1816)Died 20 March 1816, aged 81Maria I reigned as Queen of Portugal from 1777 and, after fleeing to Brazil ahead of Napoleon's invasion in 1807, also became the first monarch to rule from the Americas. Known as "Maria the Pious" and, due to her mental illness in later life, "Maria the Mad," she died in Rio de Janeiro.
1745 – 1816Francis Asbury (1745-1816)Died 31 March 1816, aged 70Asbury emigrated from England to America as a Methodist missionary and became one of the first two bishops of the newly organized Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States. His decades of itinerant preaching across the American frontier made Methodism one of the largest denominations in the young republic.
