1813East India Company Charter ActParliament ends the Company's trading monopoly with IndiaThe British Parliament renewed the East India Company's charter while stripping it of its trade monopoly with India, opening the subcontinent to private British merchants. The act also permitted Christian missionaries to operate in Company territory for the first time. It marked a step toward direct British state involvement in governing India.
