1777 – 1811Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811)Died 21 November 1811, aged 34German playwright, poet, and novelist known for works including "The Broken Jug" and the novella "Michael Kohlhaas." He died in a suicide pact with his terminally ill companion Henriette Vogel near Berlin. His work had little recognition in his lifetime but later became a major influence on German literature.
1811Battle of TippecanoeUS forces clash with Tecumseh's confederacy in the Indiana TerritoryAmerican troops under William Henry Harrison attacked the Shawnee-led confederacy's settlement at Prophetstown. The battle weakened the Native American alliance Tecumseh was building against US expansion. It became a rallying cry during the War of 1812 and fed into Harrison's later political career.
