1811Prince of Wales becomes Prince RegentGeorge III's illness prompts the Regency ActParliament passed the Regency Act after King George III was declared incapacitated by illness. His son, George, Prince of Wales, assumed power as Prince Regent, giving his name to the Regency era in British culture and politics. George III never recovered and remained nominal king until his death in 1820.
