1805Battle of UlmNapoleon encircles and captures an Austrian armyThrough rapid maneuvering around the city of Ulm, Napoleon's forces surrounded General Karl Mack's Austrian army, which surrendered on 20 October 1805 with scarcely a fight. The campaign eliminated a major Austrian force before Russian reinforcements could arrive. It opened the road to Vienna for the French.
