1731 – 1802Erasmus Darwin (1731-1802)Died 18 April 1802, aged 70Erasmus Darwin was an English physician, poet, and natural philosopher who proposed early ideas about biological evolution decades before his grandson Charles Darwin. A founding member of the Lunar Society of Birmingham, he wrote extensively on botany, medicine, and invention. He died at his home in Derbyshire on 18 April 1802.
