1772 – 1801Novalis (1772-1801)Died 25 March 1801, aged 28German Romantic poet and philosopher Novalis, born Georg Philipp Friedrich von Hardenberg, died of tuberculosis in Weissenfels on 25 March 1801. His unfinished novel Heinrich von Ofterdingen, published posthumously, became a touchstone of German Romanticism and introduced the symbol of the blue flower. He died before his twenty-ninth birthday.
