1801French army surrenders in EgyptCapitulation of Alexandria ends Napoleon's Egyptian campaignOn 30 August 1801 the remaining French forces in Egypt surrendered to British and Ottoman troops at Alexandria, ending the occupation Napoleon had begun in 1798. Under the terms of surrender, French soldiers were repatriated aboard British ships. The campaign's failure weakened France's position in the eastern Mediterranean.
