1785 – 1795Louis XVII (1785-1795)Died 8 June 1795, aged 10The uncrowned titular king of France, son of the executed Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, died in the Temple prison in Paris of tuberculosis and the effects of years of mistreatment. His death, amid rumors of escape and substitution that persisted for decades, left the royalist succession to his uncle. His case remained a subject of forensic investigation into the twentieth century.
