1795Expedition of QuiberonRoyalist emigres land in France with British backingA force of royalist emigres, transported and equipped by Britain, landed on the Quiberon peninsula in Brittany to support counter-revolutionary rebels. Republican troops under General Lazare Hoche encircled and crushed the landing within weeks. Hundreds of captured emigres were subsequently executed, ending the scheme as a catastrophic failure for the royalist cause.
