• 1795 Treaty of Greenville signed Native American confederacy cedes most of Ohio to the United States Representatives of the United States and a confederacy of Native American nations signed the Treaty of Greenville, ending the Northwest Indian War. The defeated tribes ceded most of present-day Ohio and parts of neighboring territories to the United States. The treaty opened the region to rapid American settlement in the following decades.
