1791St. Clair's DefeatA Native American confederacy inflicts the U.S. Army's worst defeatOn 4 November 1791, a confederacy of Native American nations led by Little Turtle and Blue Jacket destroyed a U.S. Army force under General Arthur St. Clair near the Wabash River. Nearly 600 American soldiers were killed, the worst defeat ever suffered by the U.S. military at the hands of Native Americans. The disaster led to a congressional investigation and reorganization of the U.S. Army.
