1790Rhode Island Ratifies the U.S. ConstitutionLast of the original thirteen states joins the UnionRhode Island narrowly ratified the U.S. Constitution by a vote of 34 to 32, becoming the thirteenth and final original state to do so. Its late ratification came after two years of resistance over states' rights and the absence of a bill of rights.
