1775 – 1862Bahadur Shah Zafar (1775-1862)Died 7 November 1862, aged 87Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last Mughal emperor of India, a poet who wielded little real power under British rule. After being implicated as a nominal leader of the 1857 rebellion, he was exiled by the British to Rangoon, where he died in captivity.

He nominally held the French throne for about twenty minutes in 1830 before renouncing it, and died in exile in Gorizia.
