1768Corsican patriots defeat French at BorgoBattle of Borgo during the French conquest of CorsicaCorsican forces under Pasquale Paoli routed an invading French army at the Battle of Borgo, inflicting a significant setback on France's attempt to annex the island. The victory briefly bolstered hopes for Corsican independence. France sent a much larger force the following year and crushed the resistance at Ponte Novu.
