1762Parlement of Paris Dissolves the Jesuit Order in FranceRuling strips the Society of Jesus of its legal standingThe Parlement of Paris ruled on 6 August 1762 that the Society of Jesus was incompatible with French law, confiscating its property and closing its colleges. The decision followed years of pressure from Jansenists and philosophes and preceded the order's wider suppression across Catholic Europe. Jesuits were formally expelled from France two years later.
