• 1755 Battle of the Monongahela British force under General Braddock destroyed near Fort Duquesne A British and colonial force led by General Edward Braddock was ambushed by French and Native American forces near Fort Duquesne. Braddock was fatally wounded and nearly two-thirds of his men were killed or wounded. The defeat was a major early setback for Britain in the French and Indian War.
