1732Theatre Royal, Covent Garden opensJohn Rich opens a new London playhouseTheatrical manager John Rich opened the Theatre Royal in Covent Garden, London, on 7 December 1732, financed largely by the profits of his hit production The Beggar's Opera. The playhouse became one of London's leading theatres and is the direct ancestor of the present Royal Opera House.
