1718 – 1772John Canton (1718-1772)Died 22 March 1772, aged 53Canton was an English physicist and schoolteacher known for experiments on electricity, including an independent method for making artificial magnets and studies of atmospheric electricity. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and received its Copley Medal for his scientific work. He died in London on 22 March 1772.
