1686Mughal conquest of Bijapur SultanateAurangzeb's forces capture Bijapur, ending the sultanateMughal emperor Aurangzeb's forces captured the city of Bijapur after a prolonged siege, forcing the surrender of Sultan Sikandar on 12 September 1686. The conquest extinguished the Bijapur Sultanate, one of the last major Deccan sultanates, and extended direct Mughal control over the region. The campaign was part of Aurangzeb's broader effort to subdue the independent Deccan states.
