1628Capture of the Spanish Treasure FleetDutch admiral Piet Hein seizes Spain's silver fleet at Matanzas BayDutch West India Company admiral Piet Hein intercepted and captured the Spanish treasure fleet off the coast of Cuba without a major battle. The seized silver and goods, worth millions of guilders, financed Dutch war efforts against Spain and marked one of the costliest losses of the Spanish crown's American revenues.
